Marbair’s Must-Read Books!

Lately my Friday nights have been consumed with watching Masterchef Juniors. I have never watched any cooking shows and don’t usually get hooked on these TV competitions but the skills that these children have and the amazing meals that they so confidently cook have become my new obsession. Yep, that’s right, my Friday nights are spent watching 8-13 year olds attempt complicated recipes while being kindly barked at by Gordon Ramsay. This week though, Friday night also included a glass of wine, a bowl of popcorn and a really great book!

If reading is a hobby than I have one hobby. I love reading! I will attempt to read just about any book that is recommended but I’ll admit I’m more of a fan of Biographies, Memoirs and anything Chick-Lit! I’ve been hearing the buzz about the TV show “ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK” and like any avid reader, I vowed that I needed to read the book Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison
before I could watch the show. I picked up my copy on Tuesday and I was hooked. The story is simple, it’s a one year of one woman’s life but it’s the year she spent in jail. Her story isn’t extraordinary, she’s just an ordinary girl who made a really bad decision but I think that’s what keeps you engaged, it could happen to you! If being a drug trafficker was your bad decision but you know what I mean. It’s a story that you may not be able to relate to but it’s a woman that you would probably be friends with and you want to hear her story. I looked forward to my daily commute on the subway so that I could read the book. It’s a short memoir and by Friday afternoon, I only had a few chapters left.

Since I wanted nothing more than to know how her final months in jail went, I was in PJ’s by 8 and in bed by 9. Of course, I had to watch Masterchef Juniors first and I don’t have a TV in my room or I would have been in bed at 8. I was sad to finish the book as I wanted to know what happened after she was released. I won’t provide any spoilers but I did try looking her up online to learn more. It’s been awhile since I felt so consumed in a book and can’t wait to watch the TV show and see the characters come to life. ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK is definitely a Must-Read. It’s also the inspiration for a list that I’ll call Marbair’s Must-Read Books! People are always asking me what I’m reading, usually because I’m asking them first but now I can keep track of the books I love through this blog that also keeps track of life as it happens! See 2 purposes, 1 blog! Stay tuned for more Marbair’s Must-Read Books!

Woman in the mirror

I don’t wash my hair every morning and today was a non-hair washing day. On the NHW days, I usually make a little more of an effort with my outfit and accessories. I also spend additional time perfecting the messy ponytail look with extra bobby pins and hair spray. This morning when I left I was feeling pretty good about the look that I “just threw” together.

I strutted around the office all morning proud of my accomplishment. No one needs to know that I didn’t wash my hair.  After lunch I went to the washroom and I was shocked at the reflection in the mirror.  My hair looked messy, not natural messy, just messy. My necklace had at one point tangled itself up and was lopsided. The outfit I picked had wrinkled worse than a crumpled piece of paper and not sure how I managed to get a pen mark on my chin.

The building property manager should really have those mirrors checked because I know that isn’t what I look like.  I strutted back to my desk and decided that there would be no more bathroom breaks today.
