For 2014 I took a #50BookPledge, that means 50 books in 52 weeks. We are mid-February and I’ve managed to finally finish my 3rd book.
** note to self – check if Robert Munsch books count.
The book I just finished was “The Book Thief”. It’s been recommended by a few people and maybe that set the expectations too high because I really wasn’t as engaged as I expected to be. (Or I’m just not as smart as my friends to get it)
In my opinion, The Book Thief starts off slow. It’s written from Death’s perspective, yes Death and in the first half of the book I wasn’t really drawn to the characters. Once Death brings all the characters together, the real emotional story starts. I have to admit that it got interesting and I managed to finished the second half in just a few days. I don’t like spoilers so I won’t tell you too much (read the back cover for more info) but I can tell you that the story does make you think. It makes you question what you would do if you were in that position.
I’m kind of on the fence about this book. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either. I probably would recommend this book but only to people who enjoy reading. The slow start isn’t for everyone. I know! That’s not a very good book review but you just have to read it to see what I mean.
On another note, I’m surviving life without pizza. I (ironically) suffered from some sort of stomach bug last night which meant I spent the night and early morning today curled up in my bathroom. I’ve self diagnosed that it was pizza withdrawal.
