Six more weeks of winter

According to some so-called reliable rodents, spring is still another 6 weeks away. Sure, easy for them to say, they have the luxury of sleeping through the winter. I am not happy about this news but luckily, I’ve been enjoying some fun indoor activities this past week and managed to captured a pic or two on my iPhone to share with you.

One of the perks of working for a wine agent is getting an exclusive invite to attend a Wine Marker’s dinner. One of my favourite wines in our portfolio is the Villa Maria Pinot Noir so nothing excited me more than learning that the Wine Maker actually brought over some Single Vineyard Pinot Noir that isn’t available in Canada. I’m still relying on my palate to decide which wines I like so I can’t explain exactly what I love about the wine but I can tell you that this New Zealand wine never disappoints. The Sauvignon Blanc is equally as delicious. If you were to ask me what wine I would recommend, I would text my co-worker and ask him for his opinion. If you want to know what I buy when no one is watching, the answer is Villa Maria Pinot Noir. In fact, I’m drinking it right now as I type.

Sorority Night!!! I was so excited to see the girls as I missed the meeting 2 weeks ago. We went to Castle Board Game Café at College & Spadina for hot chocolate and board games. We were there for awhile and played Apples to Apples, Headbandz and Boggle. I learned a few things that night:

My mind goes blank as soon as there is a timer involved.
I forget how to spell when I can’t use the entire alphabet.
Hot chocolate does NOT make things funny like wine does but good friends do.

Had another work function on Wednesday which included being introduced to one more great red wine. This one was from Argentina and although not love at first sip like the Villa Maria, this wine tasted better the longer it was left out to breathe. I wasn’t too familiar with it before our dinner but my favourite white is an Argentinian wine so I might give this another try the next time I’m at the LCBO.

Finally had the night off and what did I do, I played QuizUp on my phone. What’s QuizUp? oh it’s just an addictive multiple choice game that my friend S told me to download so she could play against me. I had no clue what it was but now I can warn you, if you are behind in housework – DO NOT DOWNLOAD… If you do download, add me “marbair”, pour yourself a glass of wine and be prepared to spend the entire night playing!

Took the GO train home to my parents house on Friday to help my brother and sister in law move into their new home. We unpacked, we cleaned, we organized and we celebrated Nat’s birthday which happened to land on Saturday.

Fri^ my sister in law at the strike of midnight when we sang her Happy Birthday

fri 1^ my mom and her label maker

Fri 2^ Birthday Cake!

So Wiarton Willie, go on and get your rest if you must. With a fun-filled February coming up, I’ll survive six more weeks of winter.

I can either drink or blog but turns out I can’t do both!

‘tis the season for holiday parties and I can barely keep my eyes open from all of last week’s activities.

I started the blog in order to capture life moments as they happened but didn’t realize that when life is happening, blogging is hard to keep up with! No wonder it’s a full time job for some. Not wanting to forget the parties I attended, here’s a quick recap of last week’s parties!

Tuesday night was my sorority holiday party. The one time that we allow the wives in our group to bring their husbands. It was fun… if you brought a husband. Just kidding Beta Sigma Phi! It’s nice to see your other halves and even nicer to share a holiday drink with everyone.

Thursday night I headed to Ottawa for my work holiday party. We started off the night with box seats to the Ottawa Senators/ Buffalo Sabres game and in true holiday party fashion, drank way too much! We ended up at a Country Bar where the drinking continued. I was a shade paler in the morning and the airline puke bag was within reach the entire time. I started this job 3 months ago and I don’t know how I would have ever lived down the embarrassment if I was the rookie who puked on the plane ride home.

Friday night was my book club holiday dinner… I stayed home cuddling a bucket, drinking Gatorade and attempting to eat toast. Either I drank a little too much on Thursday or I can’t recover as quickly as I once could. Either way, I’m sure the dinner was nice.

Saturday my little brother turned 30. His new wife planned a full day of celebrating. Old Man Winter decided that snow would be appropriate for the celebration and Toronto was hit with a massive snow storm. This time the snow stayed but it didn’t stop us and I recovered just in time to start drinking with him and the rest of the family and be able to enjoy cake.

As I flip through my phone for photos to post I realize that I am glad that I don’t blog while drunk and this will be a text only post.
